Gushaini is the main gateway into the Great Himalayan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, sitting on the Tirthan river at 1,500m. It's a working base rather than a polished tourist town — anglers come for the trout fishing the Tirthan is known for, and trekkers use it as the jumping-off point for GHNP routes. Best time is March–June or September–November. Compared to Jibhi or Shoja further up the valley, Gushaini sees noticeably fewer casual tourists, since its main draw (park access and fishing) attracts a more specific kind of traveler than a weekend-getaway crowd. Riverside homestays are the standard lodging option.
