Masrur Rock Temple is an 8th-century complex of temples carved directly from a single rock face — a technique and scale that's earned it comparisons to Maharashtra's Ellora Caves, despite receiving a fraction of the visitors. At 800m in Kangra district, it's low-altitude and accessible year-round, with October–March being most comfortable. Given its genuine architectural significance, Masrur is strikingly under-visited — a strong stop for travelers with any interest in ancient Indian rock-cut architecture who assume such sites only exist in better-marketed states.
