Narkanda is the apple-belt alternative to Shimla — 65km further along the same ridge road, with Hatu Peak towering above town and orchards replacing Mall Road's crowds entirely. At 2,708m, it gets genuine snow in January and February, drawing a small skiing scene on Hatu's slopes, while May–June and September–October bring mist-wrapped orchard walks instead. The town itself is small and functional rather than built for tourism, which is exactly the appeal for travelers who found Shimla's summer crush unbearable. Hatu Peak, reachable by a short drive or walk from town, gives a 360° Himalayan panorama that Shimla's own viewpoints can't match through the haze of a bigger town. A same-mountains, same-region swap for anyone overwhelmed by Shimla specifically, not the wider area.
