Ancient meadow, Shangchul temple
Shangarh is home to one of Himachal's more striking sights: a vast, ancient open meadow in Sainj Valley, with the small Shangchul Mahadev temple sitting at its edge and mountain views stretching in every direction. At 2,200m, it's accessible without technical trekking, with a best-time window of March–June or September–November. Unlike more famous meadows elsewhere in Kullu, Shangarh sees very light tourist traffic, so the meadow itself tends to be empty rather than crowded with photo-seekers. It pairs naturally with a Sainj Valley stay, extending a visit to nearby Pundrik Rishi Lake into a fuller offbeat itinerary.
